Nursing Mothers' Council

The Nursing Mothers' Council (NMC) was established in 1962 as an integral part of BACE and offers support and practical information to women who wish to breastfeed their babies.  In addition, NMC offers professional lactation education. (See NMC Breastfeeding Management Courses )

All NMC counselors are volunteers who have completed the four day Current Breastfeeding Management course.  Our counselors are located primarily in eastern Massachusetts (including north and south shores) with a few in central Massachusetts and one in Mid-Coast Maine. Please note that while counselors are happy to take calls from out-of-state, they are not expected to return long distance calls.

NMC provides the following services to breastfeeding women:

	Telephone counseling (When to call for help ); Pump rentals and sales; Sales of breastfeeding aids; Consultations and referrals; and Home visits (on a limited basis, small fee may apply).
	NMC counselors can help you learn about the following: Prenatal preparation for breastfeeding; Beginning breastfeeding; Surviving the early months of parenthood; Diet and nutrition; Support in the hospital and at home; Advice on common problems such as sore nipples and plugged ducts; Expressing and storing breast milk; Working and breastfeeding; Breastfeeding in special situations; and Weaning.
