Breastfeeding Basics

This workshop is for childbirth educators, doulas, nurses, midwives, NMC and WIC counselors, LLL Leaders, lactation counselors, perinatal health advocates and all others who support new families.

Program

The Anatomy of Making Milk
Includes general anatomy, milk synthesis, supply and demand.
 
Getting Breastfeeding Off to a Good Start: Factors for Success and Early Red Flags:  
Includes early postpartum and troubleshooting, resources to share.

Counseling the Nursing Mother: How to Listen, Inform, and Empower
Techniques for counseling by phone or in person in non-judgmental ways to help moms make well-informed choices

Helping Pregnant Ears Hear: Teaching and Talking Effectively About Breastfeeding
Practical tips for those who teach or work with pregnant women on easing the transition to breastfeeding

Continuing Education Credits:
BACE/NMC: 6 contact hours; 5 Lamaze contact hours pending (Lamaze credits are recognized by ICEA and DONA); 5 LCERPs pending; Meets criteria of the Commonwealth of MA Board of Nursing regulations: (244 CMR, section 5:00) for continuing education for nursing re-licensure for 6 contact hours.
